THE SATANIC TEMPLE INDIANA FAQ
Who are you?
We are part of The Satanic Temple, a non-theistic Satanic organization with Chapters around the country. We are currently the only Chapter in Indiana and we represent the entire State. We have members all across Indiana and do not have a physical location in any city.
What do you believe in?
Our ethos is based in the holistic application of the Seven Tenets, which you can read here: https://thesatanictemple.com/pages/tenets
We recommend you read The Satanic Temple's FAQs: https://thesatanictemple.com/pages/faq
What do you do?
Our Chapter holds monthly meetings and participates in a number of community projects and fundraisers that support both our local community and The Satanic Temple’s national campaigns.
What if I don't live in X area?
Most of our Chapter events take place in either the Fort Wayne or Indianapolis regions. If you live in one of the surrounding states or city we don't usually get to there may still be a place for you within the Chapter. We do expect a commitment from you, even if you cannot make it to every meeting or event. We encourage our members who are distant to donate their time through online work.
What we are:
Beyond cultivating a space of like-minded individuals, we are a religion full of activists. Direct action and community engagement is the foundation of what we do. Many people join the Chapter for the community we have and if furthering the chapter's agenda is not of interest to you, then this is not the group for you.
What we are not:
The Satanic Temple (TST) is not a catch-all for every cause. While you might be very passionate about your cause and your cause may be worthwhile, if it does not promote or advance the specific causes associated with TST, you will not find traction here. We encourage you to seek groups that do. We are also not out to destroy other religions, so please leave personal vendettas at the door. If you are unclear on TST's mission, please refer to the FAQ linked above.
What is required to join?
We require attendance to a public event or meeting before an application will be considered. You can find our public events on our Facebook forum. We feel it is imperative that we meet you in person before we hand out memberships. We do not make exceptions to this requirement and applications submitted prior to event attendance may go unanswered.
Do I have to be a Satanist to join?
While some Chapters do require you to be a Satanist to become a member, we do not. We accept allies who agree with our ethos, the Seven Tenets, are committed to growing our Chapter and supporting TST's national campaigns. That being said, you should have a basic understanding of what Satanism/TST is before joining.
New to Satanism and/or The Left Hand Path?
As stated above you should minimally understand what TST is, and what TST is not. We are not an educational organization. We love to learn and share our knowledge with each other, but we are not here to teach you about Satanism. TST generously shares knowledge, resources, and original content through our sites and social media. We don’t expect you to be an expert, but we do assume you are self-motivated when it comes to learning. The more obvious it is that you are putting in the effort to learn, the more likely it is that people will be willing to help you learn more. What is expected of members?
We expect members to help grow our Chapter as well as support and further The Satanic Temple's causes. We have a minimum allowable time commitment. This can be achieved, but is not limited to, helping with events, hands-on volunteering, fundamental project logistics, and planning. We do also realize that each of us are human and circumstances can change. We will work with you to stay a part of the group. However, we expect a level of drive and follow through on your part; if you refuse to be active in any way, shape, or form for an extended period of time then your membership will be terminated. We do not hand out memberships to never hear from you again.
Beyond engagement and time, we also uphold a code of conduct that every member is required to sign. We expect professionalism, common courtesy, and respect to those around you. We are all working for the same causes. If you are a part of the Chapter, your Chapter-mates are your allies. Treat them like it. This group has a zero-tolerance policy for racism, violence (and threats thereof), bigotry, misogyny, transphobia, and the like. We strive to be an inclusive group for all types and races of people and the safety of our membership is paramount. If you cannot abide by this structure, this is not the group for you. Chapter Heads reserve the right to dismiss a member at any time.
I agree with everything you said! Where do I sign up?
Please fill out our questionnaire here. All membership decisions are made on a case by case basis and there is no guarantee that you will be accepted. If after reviewing your questionnaire Chapter leadership believe you might be a good fit, a representative will contact you. As previously stated, if you have not attended an event your application will not be considered.
